Wings Hung in Color Below the Butterfly Atrium Skylight

Inside the Butterfly Atrium at Hershey Gardens in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the ceiling takes over the room. A glass roof framed in white beams pours soft daylight into the hall, and dozens of translucent butterflies hang beneath it on fine wires. Each one carries its own palette: teal and green, cobalt, magenta, lavender, and flame orange with red veining. Where light passes through, the wings glow like tinted panes. The arrangement feels loose and lively, as if a flock drifted in and paused mid-flight at different heights. Rows of small spotlights along the crossbeams add warm points of light, while the pale, perforated walls keep attention on the color overhead. A Nikon Z8 with the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S made it possible to hold the full sweep of the skylight and its suspended wings in one frame. It is a space worth pausing in, head tilted back, picking out favorites one by one.
